Medco awards semi-submersible drilling rig contract to JDC

JAKARTA (RambuEnergy.com) – PT Medco E&P Indonesia, a subsidiary of Indonesian listed oil and gas company PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk (IDX:MEDC) has awarded a drilling contract to PT Japan Drilling Indonesia (JDI) to provide semi-submersible drilling rig “Hakuryu-5).

PT JDI is a subsidiary of Japan Drilling Co., Ltd (JDC).

“Japan Drilling Co., Ltd. (JDC) is pleased to announce that its subsidiary company PT Japan Drilling Indonesia together with a shipping company in Indonesia has entered into a drilling contract with Medco E&P Natuna Ltd for the provision of a semi-submersible drilling rig “HAKURYU-5″,” JDC said in a statement.

The offshore drilling rig works will cover drilling or sidetracking, workover as well as plugging and abandonment of wells in Block B, Natuna Sea.

The main terms of the drilling contract are as follows:

1. Operating Area : Offshore Natuna, Indonesia
2. Estimated Commencement Time: Around July – August 2019
3. Period of Contract: 2 firm wells (approx. 123 days) + 2 option wells (approx. 98 days)

In November 2016, Medco Energi acquired participating interest in the South Natuna Sea Block B PSC (SNSB), owned by ConocoPhillips Indonesia Inc. Ltd. (CIIL) and ConocoPhillips Singapore Operations Pte. Ltd. (CSOP), both subsidiaries of ConocoPhillips (COP).

CIIL is the Operator of the South Natuna Sea Block B PSC (SNSB) with a 40% working interest and is also the Operator of the West Natuna Transportation System (WNTS).

CSOP operates the Onshore Receiving Facility (ORF) in Singapore. The WNTS infrastructure together with the Malaysian pipeline is and will continue to be the focal point for the commercialization of existing discoveries and ongoing exploration activity within the Natuna area.
