JAKARTA (RambuEnergy.com) – PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMNT), previously known in as Newmont Nusa Tenggara (NNT) is currently seeking a new government permit to export copper concentrates.
The current permit will expire on Feb. 21, 2019.THe company seeks government approval to export 336,000 tons of concentrates.
Last year, it received permit to export 450,826 wet metric tons (WMT) of concentrates from its Batu Hijau mining area in Sumba Island, West Nusa Tenggara province.
President Director of Amman Mineral Rachmat Makkasau told reporters at the Parliament building said that the company seeks lower exports as last year the company’s concentrates exports were lower than the early plan, due to bad weather.
Separately, Freeport Indonesia’s concentrates export permit will also expire late next month (February). The company, however, is yet to submit new export permit.
Recently, the government of Indonesia through its state-owned mining holding company PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) raised its stakes in PT Freeport Indonesia, the operator of giant Grasberg mine in West Papua, to 51.23% from 9.36% previously.
Inalum spent US$3.85 billion to purchase the stakes.
Under the deal, Inalum acquires 40% interest of Rio Tinto in Freeport for US$3.5 billion and the remaining 1.87% from Freeport McMoran for US$350 million. (*)
