Pertamina targets fuel terminal Sambu and Tanjung Uban completed in 2016

JAKARTA (rambuenergy.com) – State oil and gas company PT Pertamina is targeting to finalize the construction of Fuel Terminal (Terminal BBM) Sambu and Tanjung Uban in Riau Islands province with storage capacity of 500,000 kilo liters worth US$156 million will be completed in the first quarter 2016.

Pertamina is developing an Automation System Terminal as well as processing system to blend HSD and MFO with international standard at TBBM Sambu. The new project will increase TBBM Sambu’s storage capacity to 300,000 KL with jetty capacity of LR 100,00 DWT.

At TBBM Tanjung Uban, Pertamina builds a fuel storage with capacity of 200,000 KL, equipped with an Automation System Terminal with new jetty that has capacity of LR 100,000 DWT. TBBM Tanjung Uban is equipped with ‘mogas’ (Premium fuel) blending facility that can increase the flexibility to import Premium fuel product or HOMC 92 high octane and Naptha.

Pertamina said in a statement that it targets the TBBM Sambu to be completed in March 2016, while TBBM Tanjung Uban in June 2016. Pertamina spends US$94 million to develop TBBM Sambu and US$62 million for Tanjung Uban.

“At present, the progress of the construction is still on track. We hope that WIKA as the EPC contractor can complete the works on time and if possible, ahead of target,” Pertamina President Director Dwi Soetjipto said.

The completion of the two projects will improve Pertamina’s capability as Storage and Blending Facility Provider. Apart from supporting the energy security, the facilities will also support Pertamina’s activities in oil trading in Southeast Asia region, in particular for MFO and HSD products.

Once completed, in total TBBM Sambu will have capacity of 800,000 KL. Pertamina eyes market share of 5-10 percent in the region from 1 percent at present. The total volume of MFO and HSD products in Malaka Strait reaches 45 million KL per annum, said Pertamina.  (*)
