JAKARTA (rambuenergy.com) – The Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Minister Sudirman Said on Friday (Jan. 30) inaugurated a number of gas pipeline projects that had been developed by gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) in Batam, Riau Islands province.
The inauguration ceremony was witnessed by President Director of PGN Hendi Prio Santoso, directors and commissioners of PGN, the energy ministry’s senior officials and Riau Island provincial government officials.
The projects that were inaugurated by the minister include the gas distribution pipeline linking Panaran and Tanjung Ucang in Batam along 18 kilometers. The 16 mm inches of pipeline has the capability to transport up to 75 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas.
The gas transported through the pipeline will be used to meet gas needs of households, industries, commercial sector and power plants.
The other project that was inaugurated was the city gas networks in Bogor town, West Java and Tangering in Banten province. The city gas network projects were developed jointly by the energy ministry and PGN. The gas distributor company was given special task by the government to distribute gas to households.
PGN said the city gas pipeline network in Bogor is designed to deliver gas to 4,320 of households, while Tangerang is targeted to deliver natural gas to 382 households.
The gas distribution projects are part of the government’s drive to increase domestic gas consumption and speed up the fuel-to-gas conversion program. (*)
