JAKARTA (rambuenergy.com) – Commissioner General Police Budi Gunawan’s dream of becoming the National Police Chief comes to a dead-end on Tuesday after the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) declared him as a suspect in bank account irregularities’ case.
The Head of KPK Abraham Samad told a press conference that Commissioner Budi Gunawan has been declared as “suspect” in the Tipikor case, when he held position as bureau head that oversees carrier development of police officers.
Abraham Samad said the investigators of KPK have found evidences of suspicious transactions. KPK, he said, has conducted investigations since July 2014.
KPK’s press conference was broadcast live by private television Metro TV.
The surprise announcement came as the House of Representative (DPR) was about to begin conducting fit and proper test for the police chief candidate.
The announcement is a blow to President Joko Widodo government as well as to the parties that supporters of the government. KPK is believed to have informed the President prior to the announcement. (*)
