President Joko Widodo visits Daewoo Shipbuilding in Busan

JAKARTA (Rambu Energy) – President Joko Widodo, popularly known Jokowi, visited Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) in Busan, South Korea on sideline of his visit to attend the ASEAN-South Korea Summit.

President Jokowi expressed his admiration on the advancement of South Korea’s shipbuilding. “An extraordinary technology,” he wrote in a guest book when visited the company, as reported by detik.com.

Indonesia is reportedly ordering three vessels from the South Korea’s giant shipbuilder. The Head of Indonesian National Intelligence Agency (BIN) Marciano Norman said Indonesia has ordered three submarines. One of the submarine, he said, will be built jointly by DSME and Indonesia’s state shipbuilder PT PAL.

South Korea’s President Park Geun-hye said Indonesia is an important and strategic trading partner and hopes to cement the relationship. “I heard that the President (Jokowi) has visited South Korea as (Solo) municipality head. We hope this cooperation can be continued,” Park was quoted by Kompas as saying.(*)
