JAKARTA (Rambu Energy) – PT Saipem Indonesia, an Italian offshore oil and gas EPC contractor, issued statement on Saturday that the company has no business relation with Edhie “Ibas” Baskoro Yudhoyono, a son of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY).
The company made the statement after former treasury of Indonesian Democratic party (PD) Muhammad Nazaruddin said during a court hearing on Friday (Oct 10) that Ibas received fees from various projects, including offshore oil and gas projects.
“Saipem Indonesia has no business relation both with Edhi ‘Ibas’ Baskoro and Muhammad Nazarrudin,” External Relations Manager of Saipem Indonesia, Riatna Jeo, was quoted by state news agency Antara.
PT Saipem also did not secure a contract worth US$150 million from the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas business (SKKMigas).
Riatna said PT Saipem Indonesia upholds good reputation and reminds other parties not to make inappropriate statements about the company.
Nazaruddin who is now imprisoned for corruption testified at the corruption court (Tipikor) on Friday as a witness for Wisma Atlet and multi-purpose sport building in South Sumatera in 2010-2011 corruption case.
“Ibas received money in relation to SKK Migas , Wisma Atlet and offshore development projects,” Nazaruddin said Friday.
Nazaruddin told the court that Commission VII member which oversees energy sector, Sutan Bahtoegana, was once pressured by Ibas to pull out from an offshore project tender and allowed PT Saipem, which was assisted by Ibas to win the tender.
Sutan Bhatoegana who was a commissioner of PT Timas was taking part in the tender.
Nazaruddin said Ibas received fees ranging from US$405,000 to US$1 million.
In February this year, Gerhard Maarten Rumeser, deputy for business control of SKK Migas, revealed in a court hearing that President Director of PT Rajawali Swiber Cakrawala Deni Karmaina, a friend of Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono, complained to former SKK Migas chairman Rudi Rubiandini, because SKKMigas approved PT Timas as the winner of the Gendalo-Gehem subsea construction of the multi-billion IDD Chevron project.
Swiber and Saipem were believed to be partners in the tender.
Rumeser testified at the Tipikor court at that time as a witness in a gratification case, which implicated Rudi Rubiandini, former SKK Migas chairman. Rubiandini has been put in prison for receiving bribes from various parties. (*)
