Eni Muara Bakau starts 3D seismic survey at Makassar Strait

JAKARTA (Rambu Energy) – Production sharing contractor Eni Muara Bakau LV, a subsidiary of Italy’s Eni S.p.A., has commenced 3D seismic survey at Makassar Strait. The survey, which began on Jan. 30 and last until Mar. 31, 2014, will cover water depths of 90 to 1,400 meters.

The head for public relation of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) for Kalimantan and Sulawesi area Yanin Khlison said that the survey is carried out based on compliance principles, including environmental requirements.

Khlison said prior to the survey, the company has approached the local community (socialization) as well as related local government institutions to discuss about the survey activity. The equipments used for survey such as cable to detect marine mamals in the sea, are considered environmentally friendly.

The head for Oil and Gas Unit at the Mines and Energy Office of the East Kalimantan province P.R. Bantolo lends support to the survey. “The DBH Migas [oil and gas fund allocation] for East Kalimantan is quite significant, therefore oil and gas industry activities in this region may not be disrupted.”
