Medco Power to soon start construction of gas power plant Riau

JAKARTA ( – PT Medco Power Indonesia, through its subsidiary PT Medco Ratch Power Riau (MRPR) will soon start the construction of gas power plant PLTGU Riau with planned installed capacity of 275 MW. The electricity produced by the power plant is expected to strengthen the electricity supply in the North Sumatera region.

President Director of Medco Power Eka Satria said the power plant, with an estimated investment of US$290 million, will be built in Tenayan  Industrial Zone, Pekanbaru city. The power plant is scheduled to be operational in 2021.

Early in November, MRPR has given the notice to proceed (NTP) to Lotte Engineering & Construction (LEC) as the EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) contractor of the project.

MRPR is a consortium of Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding Pcl and Medco Power Indonesia. The EPC contract was awarded on Aug. 20, 2018 and financial closing on Aug. 23, 2018.

In addition to PLTGU Riau, Medco Power will soon develop geothermal power plant (PLTP) Ijen with an installed capacity of 110 MW and solar power plant Sumbawa with an installed capacity of 40 MW (2×20 MW). (*)
