Indonesia’s BMKG Issues Tsunami Warning after Strong Earthquake Hits Southern Java

JAKARTA ( – The Indonesian Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) had issued a tsunami warning for the southern coast of West Java, Central Java and Jogyakarta after a strong earthquake hit the Java island, with the earthquake was reported to be felt in Jogyakarta, Bogor, and Jakarta.

According to BMKG, an earthquake occurred with magnitude: 7.3 SR, some 43 kilometers SouthWest Tasikmalaya, West Java at 23:43:57 western Indonesian time.

BMKG later revised the magnitude of the earthquake to 6.9 SR, with epicentrum located 11 km SouthWest of Tasikmalaya, West Java.

No reports of damages that happened so far, however, BMKG said it is monitoring the possible aftershocks.
