JAKARTA (RambuEnergy.com) – President Joko Widodo on Thursday (Oct. 4) officiated the groundbreaking of three power plant projects, namely coal fired power plant (PLTU) Jawa 7, PLTU Jawa 9 and PLTU Jawa 10 as well as inaugurated the completion of PLTU Banten, with combined investment value of US$6.015 billion.
PLTU Jawa 7 will have capacity of 2000 MW (2×1000 MW) and could lighten up 2 million of households. The same also with PLTU Jawa 9 and PLTU Jawa 10 with capacity of 1000 MW each and PLTU Banten (660 MW) could jointly lighten up 4.6 million household.
The power plant projects are part of the government’s ambitious program to develop 35 GW of power plants in the next few years.
PLTU Jawa 7 is projected to begin operating in 2020 with electricity tariff of 3.21 cent USD per kWh.
According to Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan, the tariff for PLTU Jawa 7 is the cheapest tariff ever set for power plants so far.
The project is developed with a BOOT (build, own, operate and transfer) scheme for 25 years. Once the period ends, the power plant will be handed over to PLN.
The total investment of PLTU Jawa 7 is budgeted at US$1.88 billion, by utilizing ultra super critical boiler. The power plant will consume low rank caol of 4,000-4,600 kkal/kg with ash received.
PLTU Jawa 7 will comprised of 2 units, Unit one is scheduled to begin commercial operation in April 2020 and Unit 2 October 2020.
PLTU Jawa 7 is located in Terate village, Kramatwatu sub-district, Serang Regency in Banten province. The project is developed by a consortium of China Shenshua Energy Company Ltd and PJB, a subsidiary of state electricity company PLN.
Meanwhile, PLTU Banten is developed by PT Lestari Banten Energy. (*)
