Kaltim Jordan Abadi launches tender pre-qualification for Phosphoric Acid EPC

JAKARTA ( – PT Kaltim Jordan Abadi (KJA), a joint venture company of state-owned fertilizer firm PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur and Jordan mining company Jordan Phosphate Mines Co., Plc, has announced a limited tender pre-qualification for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of Phosphoric Acid and By-Product Plant project.

The plant, called PA-SA project, will be built at KIE Industrial Complex, Bontang in East Kalimantan.

Presently, KJA has a list of EPC companies that will be invited to participate in the pre-qualification process. The JV firm however is opening the opportunities to other parties interested in participating in the pre-qualification process for the implementation of the PA-SA project.

Those who are eligible to take part are: consortium, which consists of national EPC company and foreign EPC company that have fulfilled all requirements stipulated in the pre-qualification document.

At least one member of the consortium which is a national company shall possess successful experiences as main contractor or as a consortium member in the an EPC project of oil and gas, refinery, petrochemical or chemical plant with minimum project value of US$100 million or its rupiah equivalent.

In addition, each consortium member which is a foreign company, shall have successful experiences as the main contractor or as a consortium member in an EPC project of phosphoric acid plant.

Interested participants are required to send letter of interest to the company’s tender committee, at the latest Feb. 17, 2016

Both parties set up the JV company on Feb. 26, 2014 signed a joint venture agreement with an aim to build phosphate and sulphate plants in Bontang, East Kalimantan with investment cost of US$300 million. Under the JV agreement, Pupuk Kaltim holds 60% ownership interest on JV and the remaining shares are owned by Jordan Phosphate Mines.

The construction of the phosphate plant is aimed at reducing dependency on phosphate imports. The PA-SA project  is designed to produce 200,000 tons of phosphate acid and 600,000 tons of sulphate acid, PT Pupuk Kaltim said earlier.

Earlier, Jordan Phosphate has formed PT Petro Jordan Abadi Company in Indonesia in partnership with the Indonesian Petrokimia Gresik Company, to produce phosphoric acid using phosphate from the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company. The company owns 50% of the joint venture. The plant began its commercial operation in October 2014.

The Gresik plant produce 200,000 tonnes of phosphoric acid per annum, the main component of fertilisers, 550,000 tonnes of gypsum, used to manufacture cement, and producing 550,000 tonnes of pure gypsum to be used in different industries.
